How To Use Beer For Hair? Shampoo & Mask Easy To Make!
Some time ago I started using a hair mask that one of its ingredients is beer. Although I knew beer is good for hair, I wasn’t fully aware of its benefits on my hair. That’s why I did a little research to find out more about the good effects of beer on hair.
But first I’ll share with you:
1) The simplest beer shampoo recipe ever.
2) What beer hair mask I used and how you can make your own beer hair treatment.
3) And last but not least, what are the benefits of beer on hair.
Let the party begin… with beer for hair!
1) Shampoo with beer for hair
The simplest beer shampoo recipe & how to wash your hair with beer.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp shampoo
- 120 ml beer (1/2 cup)
- 120 ml water (1/2 cup)
Implementation
- Use a pH-balanced gentle shampoo.
- Fill a cup or a bottle (use what’s more convenient for you) with the beer and the water.
- Pour half of the beer and water mixture to wet your scalp and hair.
- Apply the shampoo evenly on your scalp. I usually use 1tbsp of shampoo for one wash.
- Use the rest of the beer and water mixture to help your shampoo lather.
- Massage your scalp for about 5 min.
- If you feel that you need one more hand of shampoo repeat the same steps.
- Rinse your hair with water. If you don’t want to waste the rest of the beer, you could even have a lovely hair beer rinse first and then make a final quick rinse with cold water. Nothing goes to waste!
Notes:
- You can adjust the proportions according to your needs.
- The beer must be in room temperature and flat. You could pour it in a bowl and let it sit overnight.
- Try to choose a beer that doesn’t have a strong odor. If you can find an unpasteurized beer it’s even better for your hair.
- It’s best to use non-alcohol beer, especially if you have dry scalp or dry and damaged hair.
- I would suggest having the beer rinse, especially if you have oily scalp or fine and limp hair.
- If you live in an area with hard water, distilled water or installing a filter might be a good idea.
- Don’t use this regimen every time you wash.

2) Hair mask with beer for hair
What beer hair mask I used?
I used the Orzene Optimum Oil For Overstressed & Very Dry Hair.
This is a repairing and nourishing hair mask with beer for hair. It claims that the combination of Shine Elixir and Golden Oils Complex, favors the intensive reconstruction of the hair cuticle, deeply nourishing it and enhancing its moisture.
This hair mask also smells incredible and has an excellent smooth texture. It detangles and makes my hair soft, but not as much as I would like (my hair is never satisfied as it seems!).
However, I feel it’s one of the best hair masks on the market I’ve ever used on my hair (but I’ve still a lot to check out too…!).
I have to mention that it also contains some of the usual chemicals cosmetic companies use for their over-the-counter hair products.
I wish someday all cosmetic companies will stop using chemicals in their products. Wouldn’t it be great?
Here are some more hair masks with beer on the market if you want to take a look.
How to make a natural mask with beer for hair treatment?
I know that some of you might prefer a more natural treatment with beer for hair. I love using natural home remedies too, but sometimes I just have to check out that new product on the market!
This is a beer hair mask that you can make by adding 2 more simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp beer
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ½ banana (ripe)
Implementation
- Mix all the ingredients in a blender until you get a creamy smooth paste without any banana bits.
- Shampoo your hair as usual and then apply the creamy hair mask evenly on your hair.
- Leave it for 5-10 min.
- Rinse your hair with lukewarm water and repeat one more hand of shampoo.
Notes:
- This mask is best for dry and damaged hair.
- You could use it twice per month.
- If you have longer or thicker hair, you could double the quantity.
- The beer must be in room temperature and flat. You could pour it in a bowl and let it sit overnight.
- I would suggest applying it on the lengths and not on the roots. If you have dry scalp then you can use it on your roots too.
- Remember to use a pH-balanced shampoo.
3) What does beer do to your hair?
The key ingredients to a typical beer are water, yeast, barley and hops, which means that it’s full of B vitamins, proteins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids.
That’s why beer can:
- make hair softer and shiner
- give hair volume
- take away the oiliness
- replenish the moisture
- nourish the hair
- strengthen the roots
- clarify the scalp and hair
- help tighten hair’s cuticles
- give elasticity to the hair strand
Always have in mind any allergies you might have to the ingredients.

To You With Love.
